Senayangba Chubatoshi Jamir, born on October 17, 1931, is an important Indian politician. He has held many significant roles in the government. Mr. Jamir served as the Chief Minister of Nagaland multiple times. He was also the Governor of Maharashtra, Governor of Gujarat, Governor of Goa, and Governor of Odisha. For his dedication to public service, he received the Padma Bhushan award in 2020, which is one of India's highest civilian honors.

Early Life and Education
Chubatoshi Jamir was born in Ungma Village. His parents were Senayangba Jamir and Takatula. His grandfather, Jungshinokdang, played a key role in bringing Christianity to Nagaland.
Jamir started his schooling in Mokokchung. He then went to Scottish Church College, Kolkata for his intermediate studies. Later, he attended Allahabad University. There, he earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and law (LL.B.) degrees.
A Career in Public Service
S. C. Jamir has had a long and impactful career in Indian politics. He helped shape the future of Nagaland.
Helping Create Nagaland
In 1960, Jamir was part of a group that talked with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. These discussions led to Nagaland becoming a state within India. He was one of the people who signed the The 16-Point Agreement. This agreement was crucial for Nagaland's creation. Because of his efforts, he is seen as one of the people who built modern Nagaland.
Serving in Parliament
In 1961, Jamir became the first Lok Sabha Member from Nagaland. The Lok Sabha is one of the two houses of India's Parliament. He served as a Member of Parliament until 1970.
During this time, he also worked as a Union Deputy Minister. He was a Deputy Minister for Railways, Labour & Rehabilitation. Later, he became Deputy Minister for Community Development & Cooperation, Food and Agriculture. He was even a Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. In 1962, he was part of India's delegation to the UN.
Leading Nagaland State
Jamir served as the Chief Minister of Nagaland five times. His terms were in 1980, 1982–1986, 1989–90, and 1993–2003. He was first part of the Progressive United Democratic Front. Later, his party joined the Indian National Congress. He also served as a member of the Rajya Sabha (the other house of Parliament) from 1987 to 1992.
He always believed that all groups in Nagaland should work together for peace. He said that talking to only one group would not solve the problems. He felt that all Naga tribes should have a voice.
Serving as Governor
After his time as Chief Minister, Jamir took on new roles as a Governor. A Governor is like the head of a state, representing the President of India.
He was the Governor of Goa from July 2004 to July 2008. In March 2008, he also temporarily took charge as the Governor of Maharashtra. He was formally appointed Governor of Maharashtra in July 2008. In July 2009, he took on the additional role of Governor of Gujarat for a short period. Finally, on March 9, 2013, he was appointed Governor of Odisha, serving until March 2018.
Personal Life
S. C. Jamir married Imkonglemla in 1958. They have five children together. In 2017, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Cambodia. In 2020, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan award for his long service to the public.
