Matthias Klein

/about

Pixar-style cartoon portrait of Matthias: a bald man with a full grey beard and bright blue eyes, grinning warmly. The background shows a cozy café rendered in indigo, rust red and warm browns.
This is what I'd look like if Pixar dropped by my homelab.

Hi, I'm Matthias - a dad, an IT specialist, and someone who's spent more evenings than he'd like to admit tinkering with servers that didn't strictly need tinkering with.

By day, I work in IT. Outside of that, I run a small, entirely self-hosted homelab (details on /homelab), not because it's the easy path, but because I care about owning my own data and understanding the systems I depend on, rather than renting my digital life from someone else.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, which turned out to explain a lot - about how I work, how I focus, and why a minimalist desk setup matters more to me than it might to most people. That diagnosis also pushed me toward something new: I'm currently training to become a licensed alternative practitioner for psychotherapy (Heilpraktiker für Psychotherapie), with a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent people. Not a career change, more a long-standing interest that finally found its shape.

This blog sits at the intersection of those things: homelab notes, some psychology-adjacent thinking, the occasional coffee tangent, and a general belief that the internet works better when more of it is built by individuals instead of platforms.

If any of that resonates, /contact has the ways to reach me.
