Oriental Spruce (Caucasian Spruce, Picea orientalis) is native to the Caucasus and adjacent northeast Turkey. It is a large coniferous evergreen tree growing to 30m–45m with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 m (exceptionally up to 4m). The shoots are buff-brown and moderately hairy. The dark green leaves are needle-like and the cones are slender cylindric-conic, red to purple when young, maturing dark brown, with stiff, smoothly rounded scales.
