Use paint stripper on details! Not only is it easier to remove the finish, it’s a much gentler approach. Don’t risk damaging the carved details with any sort of power sanding. After paint stripping, a gentle hand sand is all that is needed. 2. 3M backed veneer is an excellent modern product! After you sand your surface smooth, apply two coats of shellac to seal and provide a clean and smooth surface for the 3M adhesive to stick to. Give the shellac a scuff sand first prior to application. 3. Yes! You can remove lacquer from brass with a quick soak in normal household vinegar! About 30 mins. I started with a super ugly orange dresser but It had so much potential, nothing better than 100% wood piece of furniture. I started this transformation by sanding 100% of the old finish using my Makita orbital sander and 80 grit sand paper then I went over with 120. I love to use my air compressor to remove the dust from my piece before applying the color. Next was time for my Paint wash and I used my color Ash Wash and added water as always, to create a water base stain and avoid covering the wood grain during the application and f my color.
