about

This album's title refers to the process of flowering, or blossoming. Its programme presents a set of new blooms in saxophone repertoire, in a diverse range of styles, all receiving their premiere recording here. The works are connected by shared themes of seeking inspiration from specific places, momentary experiences, and observations of nature - and having those things fire the imagination's 'inner world'. The five composers come from all over the globe: Great Britain, the United States, Singapore, and Australia. Their works transport the listener even further - from the highlands of Tibet to the tropical warmth of Brazil, by way of a medieval church in Italy, a windswept island off the coast of Wales, and a sudden spring snowfall in New England. Brought together and presented as a recital, these evocative and thought-provoking works create a substantial bouquet of music written for saxophone over the past thirty years.
