Ricardus Purdy Wilbur (1 Martii 1921—14 Octobris 2017) fuit poeta et interpres litterarum Americanus. Secundus poeta laureatus Civitatum Foederatarum anno 1987 creatus est, et bis praemium Pulitzer poesis accepit, annis 1957 et 1989.[1]
Vita

[recensere | fontem recensere]Novi Eboraci natus est, et in North Caldwell in Nova Caesarea adolevit.[2] Diploma studiorum in Schola Superiore Montclair anno 1938 adeptus est, ubi pro diario discipulorum laboraverat.[3] Diploma studiorum in Collegio Amherstensi anno 1942 adeptus, in Exercitu Civitatum Foederatarum ab 1943 ad 1945 per secundum bellum mundanum meruit. Tum, post scholam graduatam in Universitate Harvardiana, Wilbur in Universitate Wesleiana duo decennia, et in Collegio Smithiano alio decennio didicit. Cum in Universitate Wesleyana esset, prelo universitario adiuvit in serie poesis condita.[4][5] Duo praemia Pulitzerana poesis accepit, et anno 2009 in Collegio Amherstensi iam docebat.[6]

[recensere | fontem recensere]Wilbur octo annos natus suum poema primum in John Martin's Magazine protulit.[7] Primum librum suum, The Beautiful Changes and Other Poems, anno 1947 edidit. Ex quo nonnulla volumina poesis protulit, inter quae New and Collected Poems (Faber, 1989). Wilbur etiam est interpres, qui operam comicis Molière et dramatibus Ioannis Racine, operibus Francicis saeculi septimi decimi, praecipue dat. Sua translata Tartuffe facta sunt solitus ludus conversus Anglicus, qui in televisione bis praebitus est (productio anni 1978 per DVD inveni potest.) Praeter poemata et translata, nonnullos libros pueriles protulit, inter quos Opposites, More Opposites, et The Disappearing Alphabet.
Poesis Wilburiana, usum Roberti Frost et W. H. Auden continuans, in experientiis quotidianis illuminationem reperit. Minus noti sunt conatus Wilburiani in scriptione lyricarum. Verba nonnullorum carminum in Candide contribuit, theatro musico Leonardi Bernstein anni 1956, inter quod "Glitter and Be Gay" et "Make Our Garden Grow," carmina praeclara. Nonnulla etiam opera non iam edita produxit, inter quae "The Wing" et "To Beatrice."
Inter eius honores sunt Arbitrium Praecipium Drama Desk et Praemium Interpretationis PEN pro ludo converso The Misanthrope (1983), Praemium Pulitzeranum poesis et Nationale Librorum Arbitrium pro Things of This World (1956),[8] praemium Ednae Sancti Vincentii Millay, Praemium Bollingenianum, et Eques Ordinis Palmarum Academicarum. Socius Academiae Americanae Artium et Scientiarum anno 1959 electus est.[9] Anno 1987 factus est poeta secundus, post Robertum Penn Warren, poeta laureatus Civitatum Foederatarum nominatus, postquam titulus a Poetry Consultant permutatus est.
