Another Holiday Special for you while the Shepard is traveling. Howard Casner joins the show to talk about the romantic dramadey starring Channing Tatum, in what may be his best role. Starring alongside Kirsten Dunst, Tatum plays a notorious burglar/robber who gained access to McDonalds and other stores by coming through the roof when the facility was closed and then robbing the location when the staff comes in to open for business. This story is based on a real case and many of the plot points are legitimately accurate.

Escaping from prison, Jeffrey Manchester, hides out in a “Toys R’Us” store for several months, eluding capture while also carrying on with a romance of a local woman who is unaware of his status as the notorious thief.

Dunst and Tatum turn in excellent performances, and the story stays true to the real life events for the most part. Howard is convinced that Manchester’s attorney is guilty of malpractice and spends a chunk of the discussion trying to explain why. Regardless of judicial accuracy, the plot plays out with a warmth that is unexpected. The promotional material suggests this is a comedy, but we think the term “Romantic Drama” better classifies the movie. Come find out what minor points allow us to quibble for an extra few minutes.
