Ugh, so close. Please stop removing physical buttons from cars. A big tablet i cant control by feel while driving is NOT an upgrade.

Weird. I have to switch all my machines to x11 in order to get multiple monitors working. Wayland just renders back screens on everything but main. Also makes remote desktop access buggy as fuck if it works at all.
Longpork3@lemmy.nzto Europe@feddit.org•What Happens if the EU Bans Terms Like “Veggie Burger”? A New Consumer Study ExploresEnglish14·3 months agoThe issue is back to front even. Go read the ingredients on all of the products proudly procliaming themselves “plant based”, and you’ll find a significant number containing animal products, trying to tap into the vegan market without acatually making vegan products and using weasely terms to justify themselves because they never explicitly said it was “vegan”.
Longpork3@lemmy.nzto Green Energy@slrpnk.net•Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity4·3 months agoAre power and distribution rates not two separate things? Where I live you pay a daily network rate which goes directly to lines/distribution costs, and a separate rate for electricity actually consumed.
In NZ we get a $300/year “appreciation bonus” or something akin to that. Assuming we attended weekly trainings only and no callouts, it would work out at around $3/hr.
Some of our employers will voluntarily pay for hours we are on callouts when we are otherwise scheduled to work, taking that expense upon themselves, but for most people a callout simply means that we lose wages or need to pull overtime to catch up.
Then FENZ has the gall to try and have volunteer crews act as scabs(at our own cost) while the massively unperaid career staff are striking for livable wages.
Longpork3@lemmy.nzto Linux@lemmy.ml•My computer randomly freezes, but only on my Linux drive. How do I even begin troubleshooting this?1·4 months agoDo you have another machine(or even a phone with an ssh tool like connectbot) you can use to try remoting into the machine while it is “frozen”? If you can still ssh in, that would indicate it is a DE issue, and you can poke around from there, try forcing a restart of the DE
I got my card replaced recently, same number except the last four digits. Easy peasy. Punched in all my details then had to go dig out my card because i couldnt remember the new expiry.

I gotta say, I empathise with him on his cause too. We need to stop equating the act of child abuse with the innate sexual to children. You’d think that by this point in time, society would be ready to accept that sexual attraction is not something people have a choice over.
What lazy scripts are leaving stuff behind in /tmp when they finish with it? It should be cleared out by whatever process put it there.
Longpork3@lemmy.nzto Europe@lemmy.dbzer0.com•EU parliament votes to ban meat names for plant-based foods3·4 months agoNot only a waste of public money, but an unfair burden on ethical food producers who now need to replace all of their packaging and marketing materials at their own cost, while flesh-peddlers are burdened with no such expenses.
Longpork3@lemmy.nzto Europe@lemmy.dbzer0.com•EU parliament votes to ban meat names for plant-based foods3·4 months agoIt’s actually a real issue. There are a number of products with claims and logos on the packaging which make them appear vegan at first glance. It’s only when you flip it over and read the ingredients that you see the animal products snuck into it.
I have on numerous occasions had well meaning but ill-informed co-workers buy what appears at a glance to be a vegan food for shared lunches which are in fact not edible.
Those nut sizes seem way off. The smallest I have seen are 17mm, with most cars and light vehicles being 19-22mm

Longpork3@lemmy.nzto news@lemmings.world•Electric cars fare worse in Finnish car inspections – up to half of Teslas flunkEnglish11·4 months agoIt would help if they released a table of data for this. Its states that the average ‘reject’ rate after four years is 5% of petrols, 11% of diesels, and 16% of EVs, but includes teslas with a 49% reject rate inside that category.
Without knowing the total number of failures for each make/model, it is very difficult to say that EVs in general are peforming worse, and not just being dragged down by the inclusion of swasticars.

Longpork3@lemmy.nzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's your take on employers banning the use of languages other than English between coworkers at the workplace?41·5 months agoIt’s being pushed in a lot of NZ hospitals at the moment. The claim is something along the lines of “all healthcare discussions need to be in english to avoid miscommunication”, but in reality it’s a bunch of white people getting upset because they think brown people are talking shit about them behind their backs.

I don’t really see the issue with that one. Most of my staff have commitments outside of work that require them to take certain days off or start/finish late during parts of the year. As long as they advise these things in advance, you can just schedule around it.
Also, if you have enough work on that you need more staff, even a part-timer still reduces the total workload on everyone else.
