I think the point is that if you try to show them the “armband” such as “hey here’s this guy literally saying the jews should be eradicated” they refuse to look
I can have my moments of being that guy. “Obviously a Nazi” is less persuasive than “literally saying Jews should be eradicated” when it comes to believing they’re a Nazi.
It can be a bit harder to detect if you don’t know the right lingo and dogwhistles.
They’re more commonly known nowadays but you still have to be pretty online to really know.

Nah, I have no sypathies for child abusers, I just know what happens when you dehumanize people.
But I’m not going to spend any more time discussing things with someone who “mysteriously” keeps getting called a nazi and actively dehumanizes people they don’t like. This will forever be a mystery that I have no intention of investigating.
Except the people we use that word to describe keep behaving more and more exactly like literal dictator-worshipping, book-burning, queer-murdering, NAZIs.
