Pacino is a depressed broadway playwright. You can tell he’s a broadway playwright because of his wide assortment of scarves. And you can tell he’s depressed because his wife is leaving him.
This was obviously chasing the popularity of Kramer vs Kramer, but with its barnyard of wise-cracking kids and sappy sitcom aspirations it feels more like a long forgotten TV pilot. Especially with its corny Razzie nominated theme song:
"Comin' Home To You (is Like Comin' Home To Milk And Cookies)"

it doesn't objectively deserve this high a rating but it was like the warm soup of al movies and i won't pretend like i didn't love watching it. must a script be good? is it not enough to have al pacino, soft?
all the reviews rightfully bring up the scene where he's making breakfast in an oversized shirt and no pants but they don't even mention that one (1) scene where he appears with a perm. the recurring reading glasses. the heaps of corduroy. the cute heartfelt talks with his son who they cast purely for his impressive aquiline nose (cute!)
a lot of the stuff not involving the kids is weird and bad but i literally do not care because it's all worth it for the good parts. argue with the wall
