Curve
Every review I read about this short says shit about how it's depicting depression and hopelessness but I couldn't disagree more... I think it depicts the exact opposite honestly. Its a dramatized example of the animalistic instinct humans have of survival and everlasting hope even in moments of complete weakness and vulnerability... even when humans are placed in positions where there's "no way out" like the character in "curve", we still have the slightest ounce of hope left in us because that's just human nature. She does everything she can to survive until the bitter end... so no this short wasn't about falling into the pits of sadness and depression, it's about how how even in the darkest/most helpless of moments, there is an inherent instinct in all of us to do everything possible for survival. All humans have hope.
The will to live is the most powerful thing.
Oh this fucked me up, the entire short we’re shown a woman, body slightly contorted, blood on her hands, laying on a hard curved surface, we know there’s something lingering below in the darkness, but my thought process was through the roof, not only do we not know what is beneath her but what awaits her on the surface above her? Is she doomed no matter what? I’m screaming!
Consider my fear of the unknown at its peak, my anxiety will never forgive me.
9 minutes never flew by faster.

Incredibly striking and an immediately affecting horror premise. This is classic in medias res horror: person wakes up in horrible situation and just has to deal with it. The situation here: a person finds themselves on a horrible concrete edge, a curved edge.
To fall is probably death yet escape up the vertical face of concrete, behind the curved bit they are perched on, that also seems impossible. This therefore deals with the impulse to survive in spite of everything. All of this is shown unflinchingly, with brutal closeups of hands scraping against a sandpaper like roughness; the makeup effects for the blood and injury are great.
After a bit though, the pointlessness becomes too pointless. The short lasts long…
Simple, elegant, and excruciating. Captures a pure essence of fear in a minimalist setting. Some of the surreal, sort of supernatural elements felt unnecessary, but they're very minor. An excellent short.
True story: I was grinding mad ollies when I clipped through the floor and ended up softlocking in some broken-ass halfpipe.
Worst Tony Hawk level ever.
lol if that were me i would've just slid off and died like,
