  First of all, Why the fuck does this have a 3.3 on here? I know its bizzare, Silly, and the effects aren't good but it knows what it is and it embraces that. This is honestly one of the most enjoyable experiences watching a movie, from the beginning it manages to catch your attention with it's energy. It reminded me alot of Hausu in terms of it's randomness and weirdness. The humour was great and you can also tell this is definitely directed by Hideaki Anno by it's cinematography. I loved this so much. Honestly slightly more than Love And Pop because of the enjoyment.

  cutie honey feeds me like rice balls feed cutie honey! as a fan of go nagai and the cutie honey anime/magical girls in general, i really can't believe i put this off for so long! this is early 00s MAGIC! everything works here..the costumes, the vivid colors, the soundtrack, the cuteness, and of course the queerness!! everything candy coated with oh so much sweet weirdness that can only come from the brain of go nagai!

  this made me wanna dress in bubblegum pink from head to toe..overly accessorized eating a million sweets while caring for my tamagotchi angel! double feature this with kamikaze girls and be eternally happy!

  hideaki anno uses materiality as an expressionistic object at his most tempered / a plaything at his most unruly and this is some truly off-the-rails shit.

  in saying that however no matter how buoyant or energetic this gets you can in one way or another, mostly through spotting the seams around it's immaculately messy construction, always tell it's the work of someone who is deeply depressed though still hugely optimistic. the film's most potent drama is that metatextual struggle between between anno's dual sense dejection and perseverance.

  the great cinematic embrace is happening here, and everyone and everything is getting a pardon from god herself. there's magic in the air tonight as we celebrate love in all shapes and sizes, from freaky friendships to lesbian love in the shape of a crystallised pink heart. we walk down the aisle of toy soldiers, half-forgotten kids who've lost their way and have had to become supervillains in order to a) make a name for themselves and b) prove to the root of their individual trauma that they're worthy of having a blast for a day or two while their daily lives are fraught with boredom, existential peril and unhappiness. the term let's put a smile on that face has…
