Damn, Easter really is an untapped goldmine as far as holiday settings for horror movies go.
But yeah—this is way more fun than the first movie! Tons more Crite action, cheekier humor, a better “unite the townsfolk” narrative, funnier gore…just all around more playful and self aware. The cast is (mostly) back, the shape-shifting bounty hunters are back (naked Playboy model bounty hunter!!! Did 14-year-old Matt make this movie??), “Kansas” as its own character is back, and, of course, the little shithead furballs themselves are back still rollin’ around and snickering like they always do. You know, they may not be Gremlins, but they sure do scratch that itch.
Movies like this aren’t released theatrically anymore these days. And that’s…
Yes I do believe this movie is my kind of bullshit and nobody should be surprised at all. I only remember the scene with the guy in the Easter Bunny outfit getting attacked and for some reason that scared me as a kid and I have no idea how I ever found anything in this whole movie to be scary but it is entirely delightful and one I need to revisit more often. The critters are better this time and they are so adorable I can’t even stand it!
One of the bounty hunters morphing into a playboy centerfold and Lin Shaye playing country are certainly highlights but nothing can beat the scene where the Critter gets his hair blown off, screams, looks in the mirror, and says “bitchin!”. That right there is the kind of crap that gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning folks.
Bananameter: 🍌 “damn meat eaters!” 🍌
Someone recently asked me (in a very weird “how do you do, fellow kids?” way) if I preferred Critters, Ghoulies, Gremlins, or Hobgoblins. I easily replied “ALL” because there is simply nothing more I’d rather watch than a hodgepodge of said beings murdering Easter bunnies, mean old hags, carnival attendees, or security guards as they decimate the planet.
Also, this movie is my fav crit(erion)ters movie, more fun than its predecessor, and absolutely worth the 4 and a half stars I’m rating it—I won’t hear anything otherwise!
'Gremlins' is to Christmas as Critters 2 is to Easter!
"Brad, You can't go in there. Let's just get help! ... Who are we gonna call? Critter Busters?"
Have a great Easter everyone!
It is louder, bigger, better, funnier, sweeter than the first Critters. However they replaced M. Emmet Walsh by Barry Corbin to play Harv, the now retired town sheriff. Corbin does a great job. But I would have loved to see what Walsh would have done with the material, which is louder, bigger, better, funnier and sweeter.
critters 2: BEST
gremlins 2: BEST
ghoulies 2: BEST
Another example of an 80’s horror sequel that I think surpasses the original, this was actually one of the examples I used of films that inspired my own first feature IP sequel.
Garris upped the fun factor and somehow still delivered on the gore and bewbs for a PG-13 movie that could play on HBO every other day.
Also: Eddie Deezan, Bounty Hunter was so weirdly badass even for a few moments, we needed more of that.
These GREMLINS rip offs were still my favorite, they’re so cute and scary!
…and even Charlie gets a well-earned moment that always gets me.
Now this is a good Easter movie!
after David Lynch mocked the big boss of cinema with the first outing of the opportunistic feeders Steven Spielberg reacted as the mac he is by helming the second coming of the appetizing cuddly rats. makes sense as those communist bastards needed a proper man of the US culture to take care of business. funny production side story: Russ Meyer was an assistant on set and sneaked that busty blonde in there. nifty.
More blood, more explosions, more Critters!
Just as fun as the first but now with gratuitous bounty hunter centerfold boobs, the Hungry Heifer jingle, Eddie Deezen, vegan grandmas, and the giant Critters ball of death!
May have bombed at the box office but it’s a blockbuster hit in my heart.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Always a fun revisit to Grover's Bend on Easter with Bradley Brown back in town, as well as, Ug, Lee Nothingface ("Kill Crites"), and reformed alcoholic Charlie, bounty hunters "answering the call". And, of course, Harv, volunteering the town for a Polar Burgers trap certain to lure the Critters (they are the "Critter Busters" because nobody else will be!) to a hopeful doom. Just a cast I love to see every year: Sal (red lipsticked, redheaded Lin Shaye) with an ax in hand, or retreating from antique store whose salesman Critters lunch, Quigley, drops dead out of the door, Deezen's Hungry Heifer clerk being a brief model for Lee to mimic in human form, and adorable Liane Curtis joining Grimes…

"Critters 2" is a 1988 science fiction creature horror film directed by Mick Garris. Narratively the film returns back to Grover's Bend, Kansas two years after the events of the first film. There seems to be a returned normalcy to things, although the events that occurred two years prior still scars many of the townsfolk in memory. Still unbeknownst to them, the Krites from "Critters" (1986) left a grouping of eggs before their demise and now with they are beginning to hatch. Once again, the bounty hunters Ug and Lee hear word that the creatures are on the attack and return to earth, with Charlie from the first film as an intergalactic bounty in-training also in tow.
