Kung Fury, an 80's Miami cop who drives a Lamborghini, sports a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor sneaks, wears a bandana, travels in time, talks like Ken from Aqua's Barbie Girl song, looks like a cross between Johnny Depp from 21 Jump Street, Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat, Ryu from Street Fighter, and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon, has a talking dinosaur not named Barney for a partner, has in-depth conversations with King Cobra snakes, sells cordless phone systems on the side, and hits on Viking babes. When Kung idiot Hitler invades Miami; Kung Fury travels back in time to prevent total chaos. Kung Fury isn't the second coming of awesomeness, but it's almost impossible not to enjoy.

And just like that, this synthy 80s movement has finally collapsed from its coked-out rejuvenation. Fun in spots but oddly insincere and fake in regards to its styling. The humor is hit or miss, the pacing is way out of wack, and the references are shockingly obvious and annoyingly prevalent. Danger 5 did this better two years ago. Amazingly epic one-liners and laser raptor saves this from being a complete disaster, but otherwise, I'll stick to throwbacks that don't jumble their own influences into a mishmashy whole.

Epicness galore! If you're gonna see one short film this year, make sure it's this! A nostalgic, eye-poppingly awesome ode to everything that rocked about the 80's! Intentionally stupid, but Swedish director David Sandberg is brilliant enough to know that you can never go wrong with Laser Raptors.

My first encounter with this short film came in the form of Hasselhoff’s song for the film’s soundtrack. Since it came out, I’ve listened to it at least 50 times a year—such a true BANGER.

Fuck everything about this movie. I'm getting tired of these cynically made insincere 80s parodies that don't even capture the energy of honest to god 80s cheese. This is pretty much the example of either trying too hard, or not trying at all. The tryhards who made this film throw every lame joke they can at the screen, and the film's ultimate idea of comedy is one note "LOOK HOW KITSCHY THIS IS!" It never works. I chuckled once, and that was at Kung Fuhrer, and it wasn't just because it was the closest thing to a clever joke but also because I was just desperate to clear the dead air in this unfunny fucking tragedy.
This was actually backed by people and was shown at Cannes. You can easily see this kind of shit on Adult Swim for free, but it's actually funny.
