Despite the target audience of the Cars franchise being boys, my daughter absolutely loves the films. She has every single diecast car toy, multiple race tracks, everything. Therefore, Planes has been a highly anticipated event for the wee one in my household for quite some time now, and in her world, today totally delivered. She loved the film, walking around as I am typing this talking about her favorite parts, and she asked "did you love it too dad?!?!"
I said yes. I don't have the heart to tell her the truth.
The truth is, this was just so lazy. I know it was originally intended…
Pure cinema. Do not pay attention to any of the film's critics. They're all wrong. Planes is simply put, the highest form of kinématographic art the world has thus seen.
An epic cinematic odyssey full of gravitas and emotional weight, these ninety-one minutes have some of the most beautiful, solemn, thoughtful, poetic and hypnotic images you will ever see. The film is living photography. It is the film. To call the plot a major part of Planes would be a mistake, it is simply a vehicle for the visuals.
Kinesthetic excellence. Let go of preconcieved notions of what cinema must be and allow yourself to be enveloped in the world this genius auteur Klay Hall has constructed. Simulacra, postmodernism, post semiotics. Adieu au langage.

you can go pretty much anywhere you want if you're a plane or a car but if you're a boat you can only go in the sea
not to mention you're huge, the aircraft carrier's eyes in this are nowhere near his mouth

I … I don't know what you want me to say. This is Planes, a spinoff to the worst Pixar franchise. And, wouldn’t you know it, this film is also not good? It's not the absolute worst film I’ve ever seen, but it's just a painfully generic slog of a film. I knew everything that was going to happen in it in the first 5 minutes of it because god forbid they come up with anything original. I guess this is a list of some of the random things I thought during the movie:
- The main character is about as stock as you can get, and the side characters manage to be worse.
- I like that the villain…
