Harkens back to the post-Little Miss Sunshine era of indie dramadies, when it didn't feel like they were just going through the motions of the festival circuit but actually came from a place of wanting to express emotions and experiences they couldn't express in the mainstream.

Kind of frustrating that despite all the different kinds of things Harmony Korine has made over his career, it was the Trash Humpers style he has decided to lean into.
Remember that scene in The Dark Knight when the Joker says "how about a magic trick?" and then slams a dude's face down on a pencil?
Watching this movie is like being that dude.
