Seymour Liebman currently serves as executive vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel of Canon U.S.A. He is also a senior managing executive officer of Canon Inc. in, Japan.
After joining the Canon U.S.A. accounting division in 1974 as a manager, Liebman was promoted to vice president in 1987. Two years later, he established the in-house legal department at Canon U.S.A. In 1996, he was promoted to executive vice president and general manager for administration and regional operations as well as being named general counsel. In addition to these positions, Liebman was appointed chief administrative officer in 2008.
Liebman is responsible for the legal affairs, intellectual property and credit divisions at Canon U.S.A. In 2009, Liebman became the first non-Japanese Canon executive to be appointed an executive officer of Canon Inc., the Japan-based parent company of Canon U.S.A., by the company’s shareholders and board of directors. Liebman is currently the only non-Japanese executive officer of Canon, Inc. His leadership continues to provide extensive support to the parent company and other Canon subsidiaries and affiliates around the globe where he currently plays a key leadership role.
In addition to his roles at Canon U.S.A. and Canon Inc., Liebman serves as a board member for various local councils and associations, including the Touro Law Center, on which he serves on the board of governors; the Information Technology Industry Council; and the council of overseers for the Tilles Center. Liebman also serves as vice chairman of the Long Island Association.
