Meet Our New Intern, Emily
Привет! My name is Emily and I am currently studying Russian at Liden and Denz in Riga. I have been studying Russian for around two years now and I study it alongside Spanish at the University of Durham in England. In Riga, I will be the newest intern, which I am very excited about.
Why I chose to study Russian
I chose to study Russian because I have loved languages since I started my education, and always found them relatively easy to pick up. Upon starting university, I wanted a challenge, and learning Russian certainly has been a step up from learning romance languages! Furthermore, I enjoy learning about history, and since Russia has such an extensive and interesting history, Russian seemed the perfect fit for me.
What attracted me to Riga
I have just come back from six months of studying Spanish in Colombia and decided to come to Riga because of the excellent programme at Liden and Denz, but also because the city is beautiful and has such a rich culture. The art nouveau architecture is astounding, and I love that you can go from being in the city to laying on a beach within thirty minutes. Moreover, there is so much to do in a relatively small city. I have already been to the central market and the KGB museum. I found the KGB museum so informative that I am currently writing a piece on it for my university, and I hope to share my thoughts on it with you all also.
What I am looking forward to as the new intern
As a new intern, I am looking forward to writing articles about life in Riga, and I hope to combine my love of history and art into these articles as Riga certainly is a hub for these topics. I have experience writing in my school’s magazine, and when I moved to university I became a keen writer for the UK’s largest student newspaper, writing in a range of styles from satire to international comment.
