Matthew "Skyward" Stanton (born April 15, 2003) is an American player who last played for TiltedBoys.
Biography
[edit]Skyward started his career in late-2018, playing in various amateur leagues such as NADCL and A2DL. With Moist Lads, he would get his first taste of professional competition by finishing in the top 8 of various open qualifier brackets in North America, mostly playing as an offlaner or soft support. This was followed by his first prize-winning tournament, finishing third in the USA qualifiers for WESG 2019.
In 2021, Skyward would attempt to enter the Dota Pro Circuit with 7:3 in the support role. As practice for the qualifiers, 7:3 took part in Royal Jelly Covenant: NA, where Skyward's vocal leadership helped his team claim an impressive 2-0 victory over Division I team simply TOOBASED, although they fell 2-0 to 5ManMidas in the next series. In the DPC qualifiers itself, 7:3 would reach the North America Closed Qualifiers, but fell short of Division II qualification.
Skyward would get his first taste of professional play standing in for 5ManMidas as a support in Tour 3, TodayPay Invitational Season 1 and Thunderpick Bitcoin Series. He was promoted to the main roster in TodayPay Invitational Season 2 (with 5ManMidas temporarily-renaming themselves as Black Bulls), where they placed 3rd in the Group Stage, but were unable to keep their momentum as they were eliminated in the first round of the lower bracket.
For Tour 1 of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit, Skyward would join Division II team Eternity, as an offlaner. Eternity, however, struggled for form, finishing last. In Tour 2, he joined The Oversight, moving back to his favoured carry role. Here, Skyward would impress in parts, with all-action performances in a 2-1 upset of The Cut, and a 2-0 upset of ALPHA with Alchemist on the 7.33 patch. Unfortunately, The Oversight were inconsistent elsewhere, losing to the middle-of-the-pack teams, and were relegated in a three-way tiebreaker. Here, with an unfavourable carry matchup, they lost their key match against TiltedBoys in a tense hour-long match. He would then join TiltedBoys themselves for Tour 3, moving back to the support role.
