Spring is Coming

Flowers Citron Green

Winter is a wonderful season of rest.  One can sleep more with the extra darkness and cozy up for some good reading and movie watching.  But come March, it is common for a craving of color and warmer temperatures.  That craving often shows up in my art.

My first pot of the season is full of cilantro!  I am planning on growing some other herbs and vegetables this year.  Growing food will be a learning experience for me.  Tomorrow I will be joining a group of local urban growers with Montiel Farms to plant potatoes.  You're never too old to learn new things!

Woman and Dog in Provence

Woman and Dog in Provence
acrylic on canvas 11 x 14 inch

It took quite a while to finish this painting.  It is another scene inspired from my recent travels to Europe.  I think the reason it took so long to complete is because each time I worked on it, it was a little bit like getting to revisit southern France.  I am so thankful for the memories of such a beautiful place, I guess I didn't want it to end.

Spring has sprung here in Kansas.  I can often tell not only by the evidence of the blooming flowers and singing birds, but by my color palette when I paint.  I don't paint as much when the weather is nice.  I would rather be outside finding things to do in the yard or just walking along the river in our neighborhood.  Today is sunny, windy and very quiet.  The trees sound a little bit like the ocean.

Off I go to enjoy it.  I hope you are having great weather wherever you live.  Take care.

Spring is Here...Some Photos and Thoughts About What it Brings

 It's Time for Spring
mixed media on paper 4 x 6 inch

Spring is here at last.  It has been a long winter and it is a relief to see color again.

It is time to dust off the bicycle and ride, to sit on the patio and read.

Winter had it's moments of quiet inspiration.  There are things about winter to love.

However, when the color returns and the birds sing, the heart just seems to lift.

Spring brings new offerings...new hopes.

Spring is the time to wake up from the sleepy slumber.

I find myself wanting to paint more.  To explore new techniques...new colors...new, new, new.

I have been thinking a lot about my art...what has worked well and what hasn't and where I want to go from here.

No real profound thoughts about it though...I just feel really thankful deep down in my soul for so many blessings.  The blessings of family, friends, nature and art to name a few. Too many to count really.

So while the flowers are blooming, I hope you have many blessings too.
I will see you in a week...we are off to Montana to see our oldest son, daughter in-law and grandson.
