Still Trending: Lucite

Unsurprisingly, many seasonal trends often translate from the home to the runway, and vice versa.  This Spring, lucite has made the jump in popularity from interiors to fashion.  Everyone from French Connection to Diane Von Furstenberg is featuring lucite heels for Spring.  My favorites come from Kate Spade, who pairs lucite with color blocking for fun effect...

Kate Spade

I'm also loving Charlotte Olympia's lucite clutch...

... in all its variations...

Lucite and acrylic furniture and accessories were all over the Spring 2013 Domino Small Spaces Special Edition, from a Plexi Craft trunk....

...to a lucite magazine holder from the Container Store.  Lucite, in all its airiness, is indeed a great choice for small spaces!

Jonathan Adler carries some of my favorite lucite furnishings on the market today.  I just love how his designs contrast sleek lucite with everything from the rich tones of burled wood...

to the fluffy pad of Mongolian lamb...

Online antiques marketplace 1st Dibs is always a great place to find lucite pieces, since so much of it was made in the '50s to '70s...

How fun, right?

Shopping Your Favorite Hotels

I discovered a fun web site the other night when googling around after some hotels I'd been eyeing from Travel and Leisure.  This is really why I read Travel and Leisure - I love checking out the interior designs of various hotels around the world, even though I'm not likely visiting them anytime soon.  Hotel eye candy, that's my thing.

Through a site called Discover and Deliver, you can shop the furnishings, lighting and accessories gracing some of the world's finest luxury hotels and restaurants.  For example, if you were lucky enough to take a ski holiday at the French Hotel Altapura...

...and wanted to create the look in your New England center- entrance colonial, you're in luck (um, kind of).  Discover and Deliver can source you the Cortina armchair and Grizzli stool.

If you prefer sunny beaches to snowy slopes, you can venture over to the W Hotel Miami's offerings...

...including these versatile Tulip family lamps...

...or get inspired in the lounge by Diane Von Furstenberg's funky climbing leopard rug...

Or conversely, you can start with a piece, such as Tom Dixon's copper shade pendant, and see it in different hotel settings...

I'm not a huge fan of it as used in the Smythe Tribeca Hotel in New York...

...but I'm digging it in the Dock Kitchen in London...

Have fun poking around Discover and Deliver!

Stumped

I was really taken with Brooklyn artist Vanessa Chew's "Roots" necklace, which I came across in a blast email from the the upcoming New York International Gift Fair.  So striking, right?

It reminded me of some of the stump walkways I've noticed, which provide a beautiful, natural alternative to stone or brick...

via Home and Garden Blog

Actually, tree stumps are kind of all the rage lately, for country casual wedding decor...

... to home accents...

Last Fall, an artist in Providence, RI installed a series of chair backs to existing stumps around the city, in an effort to transform "eyesores to Windsors"...

If these looks are too rustic for you, you could always go with the painted gold stump...

or Sharon Sides' stunning acid etched metal stumps chair...

Does This Table Make My Butt Look Big?

How are all of your health and fitness New Years resolutions going so far?  I've bailed on two of my three intended gym visits, so I guess I'm failing, dramatically.

If you need some visual prodding to keep you on track, check out this thermochromic table from designer Jay Watson.  Have a seat for breakfast...

...and check in to see how things are looking after you get up to hit the gym/donut shot/whatever seems appropriate.

The "Linger a Little Longer" table will leave a temporary imprint of anything that generates heat.

Just want you needed to keep on track for all of your weight goals for 2013!

Have a great weekend,

Atlanta Christmas House

I love me a Christmas house tour, so my ears perked up when I saw last night's One King's Lane sale featuring items from the Atlanta Homes and and Lifestyles Christmas House.

In the living room I immediately recognized the Kelly Wearstler covered chairs in front of the fireplace - such an interesting choice given the rest of the decor in the room, don't you think?

Those particular chairs aren't on the OKL sale, but if you just love them, you could always purchase Wearstler's Lee Jofa "Channel" fabric by the yard (contact us for pricing).

The upstairs study looks like a cozy spot for a cold winter night (does it get cold in Atlanta?)...

Though it's hard to tell from the photo, the wing-back chairs above are actually teak!  I don't think I've ever seen wooden wing backs before.  I love the look - but can't vouch for the comfort level!  If you want to take the gamble, $2099 will get you the pair...

The large, geometric patterned rug in the study seems like a steal at $599.

In the entryway, I'm digging the various heights at which the stairwell art is hung...

...and the Oushak runner is divine....

$3639

I'm loving the drama of the master bedroom - in particular the gentle lines of the leather settee in contrast to the imposing velvet headboard behind it.

$7,999

I stared at this gorgeous room for a long time before realizing it was a nursery.  Wow.  Gorgeous, yes.  Appealing to a baby/toddler?  Not sure.  Guess that's why it's perfect for a show house.  And a show baby.

Kelly Wearstler (via Lee Jofa) makes an appearance again, above, via her Water Stipe fabric on the oversized pillow/ottoman.

$799

In the boys room (hey, where's the StarWars posters?), I'm particularly loving the peacock blue walls, and the adorable styling of the presents falling out of the armoire.

And my favorite piece of furniture in the room...

... the Merchantile's Upholstered Chair, for $3,815.

If you're in the area, the Atlanta Christmas House is open through December 9th.  Check it out here!
