The history of the Acuvue brand dates back to 1959, when a small company, Frontier Contact Lens Company, was founded in Buffalo, New York. Initially, the firm produced rigid contact lenses and later developed the soft lens material Etafilcon A. In 1981, the pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson acquired the company and renamed it Vistakon.
In 1987, Acuvue introduced the world’s first disposable contact lenses, revolutionizing vision correction. In 1995, the first daily disposable lenses, 1-Day Acuvue, were released. In 2008, the company introduced the 1-Day Acuvue TruEye silicone hydrogel lenses.
