It is common knowledge that Frank Herbert’s classic Dune novels are chock-full of Islamic and MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) references.1 However, as a Muslim reader, I have long maintained that the Muslim influences go deeper than many may have realized. I am of the theory that if one is Muslim, or otherwise intimately aware of Muslim traditions, that person’s experience of Dune differs vastly from any other reader’s encounter with the saga.

Physically based approaches to rendering, where an accurate modeling of the physics of light scattering is at the heart of image synthesis, offer both visual realism and predictability. Now in a comprehensively updated new edition, this best-selling computer graphics textbook sets the standard for physically based rendering in the industry and the field.Physically Based Rendering describes both the mathematical theory behind a modern photorealistic rendering system and its practical implementation. A method known as literate programming combines human-readable documentation and source code into a single reference that is specifically designed to aid comprehension. The book’s leading-edge algorithms, software, and ideas—including new material on GPU ray tracing—equip the reader to design and employ a full-featured rendering system capable of creating stunning imagery. This essential text represents the future of real-time graphics.

Philosopher Ivan Illich coined the term “Overgrowth of Tools” to describe the situation where people came to rely on tools to solve problems, but became overly dependent on these tools and on those who control them.

According to Farrell, collaborative circles most often are formed among peers who meet through social networks and who share oc-cupations or interests in particular disciplines. They do not emerge from mentor-apprentice or student-professor relationship, but are driven by a sense of shared rebellion against authority figures or prevailing beliefs or approaches. As the circles form and mature, different members play recognizable roles. One person often acts as a gatekeeper or matchmaker and introduces the members to one another. One person often becomes the scapegoat; one will play “devil’s advocate” (as did Degas for the Impressionists) and one marks the boundary — taking the most extreme positions and thereby pushing the others forward toward new ideas. (In the Ultras, Elizabeth Cady Stanton became the boundary marker when she introduced and insisted on the idea that women should have the right to vote.)

This book is intended to get you, the reader, programming quickly in Common Lisp. Although the Lisp programming language is often associated with artificial intelligence, this introduction is on general Common Lisp programming techniques. Later we will look at general example applications and artificial intelligence examples.

Nearly every “Introduction to Programming” book picks a single language to use throughout. In fact, it seems not so much a deliberate choice, but more an assumption about what constitutes an introductory text. Throwing too many different things at a beginner can often confuse them; it can lead to too many errors. Perhaps these authors are right, perhaps a single language is best, but our hope for this book, is that they are indeed wrong.

I have this long running conjecture that used book stores are superior to commercial book outlets (including Amazon) for discovering books. One of the reasons for this I think has less to do with a skewed explore/exploit strategy, and more to do with the way exploratory suggestions are sourced. I think financial pressure skews exploratory search suggestions towards oversampling newer books rather than older adjacent books. I get that though; oversampling newer books is a simple way to help combat the rich getting richer trap. The problem is that I’m biased against new books; I think they’re mostly noise.

CoffeeScript is a little language that compiles down to JavaScript. The syntax is inspired by Ruby and Python, and implements many features from those two languages. This book is designed to help you learn CoffeeScript, understand best practices and start building awesome client side applications. The book is little, only five chapters, but that’s rather apt as CoffeeScript is a little language too.

Mediocre programmers know they’re not great programmers (yet). Mediocre programmers see the distance between where they are and the greatness they want in their programming careers. They see the work that goes into a being great programmers and believe that if they do the work they too will become great programmers.

All modern computers(laptops, phones, pc master race rgb monsters, etc) have somewhat similar components: Processor, Memory, Video Card, Disk and USB controller, WiFi card etc. Some of them are in one single chip and you cant even see them anymore, but they are there. For example there are chips that have Processor and Video Card together. The term for processor is actually CPU - Central processing unit, but we called it processors when we were kids and it kind of make sense, since it processes stuff.
