This is primarily why I don’t advocate for Bluesky as anything but a “if you really must have literally twitter but not twitter”. Mastodon and the Fediverse is actually not centralized! How inviting of hope.

This is a great write-up on how wider and more consistent applications of metadata could be used, abused, neglected, and how ultimately all and none of this ended up happening.
It’s an interesting and prescient time capsule coming from 2001.

I really love this article. There’s a lot of nuance, and difficult concessions to pragmatism, that we make in our lives.
It can be hard, but sometimes we really do need to bite bullet for the good of all.

This is someone who I am an acquaintance of. Somehow, I’m actually rather surprised they live in Russia!
A lot of services are hard to access in Russia, and require VPNs. However, it seems as though the VPNs are also quite hard to access now?

Least surprising thing ever. I do hope this makes it back to court hearings. I don’t really have an issue with LLMs in concept, but in practice these companies are really abhorrent.
