We must use the tactics of the r-strategist (speed, mobility, dormancy) not to consume the remaining soil, but to regenerate the dead earth. We must be the inverse of the Empire: small and fast, but builders rather than burners.
We must prioritise Functionalism over Nativism, judging species not by their passport (”Is it native?”) but by their function (”Can it hold the soil and fix nitrogen in a +3°C drought?”). We are not restoring the Holocene; we are regenerating the Anthropocene, facilitating the emergence of robust, Novel Ecosystems that can survive the new heat, even if those combinations of species have never existed together before.
