I love it when JC bashes the fash & paleos.
Four years after police cleared the Occupy encampments, Donald Trump’s MAGA movement would transpose the movement’s polemics against ruthless financial exploitation and unaccountable elites into the conspiracy-soaked register of white grievance and Middle American rage. As we build the movement for justice in Palestine, progressives must remain wary, not only of unwelcome bedfellows, but also of our message being co-opted by forces opposed to the collective liberation we seek.

Right but y’all got exaxtly two choices for executive branch because your founding fathers came up with that reckless first-past-the-post system and the electoral college.
Two candidates.
I was talking to a friend and a couple of times I’ve brought up that Trump is in the lead and that I’m a li’l worried about that.
And everytime he goes into denial mode, “enh that’s not what I saw lately”. I’ve never understood the mindset of trying to read polls wishful-thinkingly. Like the GOP did with Romney in 2021, refusing to believe that he was behind.

If fascism comes, it will not be identified with any “shirt” movement, nor with an “insignia,” but it will probably be “wrapped up in the American flag and heralded as a plea for liberty and preservation of the constitution.
Weeeell… They’ve got those $50 red baseball caps. That kinda counts…?

Devins and Baum.
… between 1790 and early 2010 there were only two decisions that the Guide to the U.S. Supreme Court designated as important and that had at least two dissenting votes in which the Justices divided along party lines, about one-half of one percent.
That sounds like science fiction to my ears living in an era where everyone has a take. The political cleave points have become fewer and wider thanks to the two-camp mathematics of FPTP and of algorithm-driven social media. We’re living in the infocalypse so people can’t get good honest facts.

All those “peak oil” fucks from last century are looking pretty damn wrong now. As I said back then and still saying now: We need to leave it in the ground. What’s in the ground isn’t the limit, what’s in the sky is. The lithosphere is limited but it’s still more than the atmosphere can handle.

The ratchet effect is real and is what eroded the Nordic Model here in Sweden; right-wing parties pushed everything towards privatization, corruption, arbetslinjen, segregation and exploitation, and the left-wing (in name only) enshrined all changes as the new baseline. (And gasoline populism being embraced by both sides.) Just like a ratchet.
I don’t think it’s teleological; it’s the emergent result of processes like the electoral system itself and how money does influence policy. It’s not that it’s Pelosi and Granholm trying to speedrun the world into an elephant graveyard and more that it’s a broken system with perverse incentives.

The Speak Out Act (S.4524) is an Act of Congress which prevents the enforcement of non-disclosure agreements in instances of sexual assault and harassment.
This federal law has been in place for a li’l over a year. Good to know about, for those who are under NDAs. I hadn’t heard of it until today.

The legendary “Daisy Girl” political ad from the 1964 LBJ campaign.
I always thought the first few pages in Uncanny X-Men #238 was a reference to this (along with all the more obvious Maddy Pryor references like “Gone to America”).

Did we really need another warning of the dire consequences of climate change in this country? The answer, legally, was yes
