Yesterday was a really embarrassing day because I wanted to get a new drive, ideally one with some fuzz too. I wanted to get the Carcosa but they also let me try out the Halberd, the Morning Glory, and a Fish Circuits Model One. I had never heard of those three so I gladly gave them a try.

And I was in their soundproof booth for like an hour but couldn’t get them to sound good or to overpower the DC hum. (I love single coil but they come with a price—who is the lamb and who is the knife?)

Finally I asked them to help me show me some cool sounds and they immediately got the Halberd to sound awesome. The problem I’ve been having was that I was playing with the volume too soft (I’m a li’l skittish about losing my hearing or getting my tinnitus back) to get the drives work the way they’re intended and they all sounded super noisy at such low levels; I did manage to find a few sweet spots on each pedal but the one that I could get several cool sounds of was the Fish.
