Llion Jones, co-creator of the transformer technology powering ChatGPT, warns AI research has become too narrow.

In a striking act of self-critique, one of the architects of the transformer technology that powers ChatGPT, Claude, and virtually every major AI system told an audience of industry leaders this week that artificial intelligence research has become dangerously narrow — and that he’s moving on from his own creation.

Jones theory:

If you don’t know, the Jones Theory essentially states that if you own several games that are similar - either in gameplay or ‘feel’ (what bucket(s) it fits in) - you’re better off only keeping the one you like and will play the most and trading/selling/giving away the others since you’ll usually default to that game.
