I’m in full agreement with Debian’s decision to make the minimal version the default and the full version move to keepassxc-full.

And this entire fight is over mostly semantics.

We see something messed up and we fix it and we realize that others could benefit from the fix so we share it.

Texinfo in particular is structured, semantic, accessible, and has a glorious legacy of being one of the very first public hypertexts.

Rather than killing it, I’d want to improve its web exported output, make it easier to write, but keep the specific reading apps around.

I lucked in to realizing something early on about moldy half-baked tarballs (or repo, these days) that can maybe sorta compile if you throw sed and grep and chewing gum and wire hangers at them: they’re optional. They’re an opportunity we may use, not something we’re forced to use. If this had been the world of Windows 95 that I was coming from, we wouldn’t even see these half-finished work-in-progress packages, they’d be totally hidden from us, kept from us in some inaccessible campanile cupboard.

Apparently Bridgy Fed (which can bring ActivityPub into AT) is designed to be centralized, that there is ideally only one single instance. I don’t understand that (I get that it’s 40000 times difficulter to do it the other way, where each Fedi instance that wants to pop into AT proto can run their own “bridge”).

I guess the situation really is similar to the official OFTC and (currently suspended) Libera bridges that were running single-instance on the Matrix home server.

I thought it was gonna be a li’l more like something you ran on your Fedi machine to spray it up with some AT varnish (or vice versa). 😵‍💫

I think I might have a li’l bit of over-fear of centralization 🤷🏻‍♀️

New version of Debian. I like the new split of non-free into non-free-firmware (and other non-free). It makes sense to me that someone would acquiesce to one but draw the line at the other—or vice versa!

• “My computer doesn’t even work without that firmware so I can’t boycott that, but no further”, or • “An occasional high-level non-free app that I can properly sandbox is fine, but I don’t want them antsing deep into my metal”

All depends on your perspective 🤷🏻‍♀️
