Met him through the Interact Fellowship in summer 2023. Very cool programming dude. Seems to basically fallen off the face of the earth: his Twitter no longer exists, his website is extremely barren, and he hasn’t committed on GitHub in at least a year. Hope he’s doing alright.

I’m a software engineer at Tyba, open-source maintainer, amateur musician, recovering entrepreneur, and father of two. In my copious free time I work on Biff (Clojure web framework) and Yakread (reading app).

Had a lot of really interesting ideas on unbundling social media while Twitter was going through the shitter. Unfortunately, a lot of his business bets on said ideas didn’t work out the way he wanted, but still an impressive designer and engineer, nonetheless.

Met him at an event he hosted in summer 2023 while he was doing an Interact Fellowship. He stopped posting regularly to his blog that summer, and now irregularly writes a newsletter. After moving between various gigs, he’s now at Anthropic. Damn, does this company swallow up everyone.

I am a Chancellor’s Fellow and Lecturer in the department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Strathclyde. I am a member the department’s Mathematically Structured Programming (MSP) group.

My research is on the design and analysis of programming languages. I use mathematical ideas and structure from logic, category theory, type theory, and denotational semantics to study programming languages and the systems they describe.

Extremely cracked.

Stephan Mertens passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 62 after a seven-year battle with multiple myeloma. At the time of his passing, he was a Professor of Theoretical Physics at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg in Germany and an External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute.

Reading this guy’s work for research I’m doing this summer. Rest in peace.

ALLAN D. HUNTER lived in New Mexico from 1973 to 1984 before emigrating to New York to become a gender activist. He received a degree in Women’s Studies and graduate degrees in Sociology and Social Work and worked with psychiatric patients’ rights groups and gender identity support groups. He later served as elder abuse case worker in the Bronx. His truncated academic career included publication of a short but groundbreaking theory piece, “Same Door Different Closet: A Heterosexual Sissy’s Coming-Out Party” in a peer-reviewed journal, Feminism & Psychology.

She has over 325,000 followers on Instagram and was recently named one of the Top 20 Female Illustrators by Stylist Magazine

I’m currently a Principal Scientist at Galois, Inc.. My research addresses problems in software reliability through advances in program analysis, computer-checkable proofs, and their combination. Recently I have been working on new programming languages for data privacy and secure computation, and new verification techniques for software defined networking. I used to help run and still actively collaborate with the UVM PLAID Lab.
