In late 1955, Toshiba introduced an electric rice cooker, the ER-4, that revolutionized the preparation of rice. Unlike earlier products, the machine automatically turned off when the rice was done, providing a convenient alternative to what had been a time-consuming task. Japanese housewife Fumiko Minami was instrumental in its invention.

People have been working on rice with lower methane emissions and I’ve been stoked and while 70% is good news, I just had higher hopes since there are other crops with way less. Like wheat and quinoa which not only produce way less methane when growing, they can also be used to decrease methane emissions.
