Beatriz Fox was born Beatriz Helen Johnson in Los Angeles, California. She took on the surname of her great grandfather Fox. Her ancestry on her father's side is Melungeon, a "tri-racial isolate" group whose heritage is part African-American, Caucasian, and Indian. Her mother is of Hispanic descent. She undertook some film studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University.
