Best known for her iconic portrayal as Melisandre in the global phenomenon, Game of Thrones, Emmy Award-nominated Carice van Houten is one of Europe's most celebrated actors.
Dutch born Carice first earned widespread critical acclaim for her award-winning performance in Paul Verhoeven's Black Book in 2006. Other notable international credits include Bryan Singer's Valkyrie in which she starred opposite Tom Cruise, Bill Condon's The Fifth Estate, and Martin Koolhoven's Brimstone alongside Guy Pearce.
In her native Netherlands, the role of Lea in Antoinette Beumer's The Happy Housewife earned Carice a record-breaking fifth Golden Calf award. She also received a best actress award at the Tribeca Festival for her portrayal of Ingrid Jonker in Paula van der Oest's Black Butterflies. Further credits include Joram Lürsen's Love is All which broke Dutch box office records, and the titular role in the much loved Dutch children's film Minoes.
Between 2019 and 2021 Carice starred in the Dutch television series, Red Light, which she co-created with Halina Reijn. The show uses a narrative lense to explore human trafficking, prostitution, and organized crime. Carice also starred in and co-produced the Dutch indie film, Instinct, which won the Variety Piazza Grande Award at the Locarno Film Festival. She also starred in in the international TV series Temple alongside Mark Strong, as well as the television adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons.
Carice will next be seen opposite David Duchovny and Jack Whitehall in the television series, Malice, a psychological thriller about a seemingly happy family whose darkest secrets are revealed and exploited when they unwittingly open their home to a charismatic stranger.
2026 will also see her star in Mees Peijnenburg's A Family which is co-produced by Lukas Dhont's The Reunion.
