Sherman Bergman was an amateur boxer (21 bouts: 17 wins [17 knockouts] 4 losses) and kick-boxer (65 matches: 56 wins [56 knockouts] 8 losses and 1 draw) who appeared in numerous movies, usually as an extra or in uncredited parts.

Bergman was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida. He was the only child of Polish born actress/dancer Anne G. Sterling and war hero/movie extra Hank Bergman. As a child, he appeared on the South Florida television shows, The Skipper Chuck Show, Jumpn Jack, Banjo Billy, and Charlie Baxter's Big Top Circus.

Bergman graduated from Miami Beach Senior High where he studied acting under legendary drama teacher Jay W. Jensen.

Bergman graduated from Miami Dade College, Florida International University, and Nova Southeastern University; he has a Master's Degree.

In 1983, he retired from amateur boxing competition with a ring record of 17 wins (17 knockouts) and 4 defeats. Reportedly, though unconfirmed, Bergman lost an amateur boxing match to Mickey Rourke. In 2024 he was stopped in the first round of a good-will amateur boxing exhibition in West Africa.

Bergman competed in kickboxing and was defeated by Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Gary Daniels. Bergman's professional kickboxing record from 1980-1996 according to The Star System Computerized World Ratings for Professional Kickboxing was 19-1 (19 Knockouts). In 2009, Bergman retired from kickboxing competition and a Miami Herald newspaper article listed his record as 56-8-0 (56 knockouts).

Bergman was a teacher for Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 30-years.

His students included numerous South American actors and actresses; including Santa Monica Gomez, Rocío Bastidas Conchita Puglisi, Gustavo Cardozo, Haydee Ramírez, and Carlos Augusto Maldonado.
