Mélia mills was born in the Bay Area, she spent her childhood soaking up the vitality of neighborhoods in Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco. Entertaining since infancy, Mélia wrote her first song about her sister fresh out the womb and penned her first rap about MLK set to the Beastie Boys' Paul Revere. After being accepted into Skyline High School of the Performing Arts, she was the only African-American female selected from across the US to be awarded a scholarship to act in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Upon graduating high school, she attended UCLA and appeared in several stage productions. During her junior year, mélia participated in a Theater, Film, TV exchange program with Howard University where she starred in Richard Wesley's film adaptation of Sirens, directed by Al Freeman, Jr. Senior year, she returned to UCLA and earned her B.A. in Theater Arts. Shortly thereafter she found her calling... At The Improv comedy club in Hollywood, just prior to a routine by none other than Jerry Seinfeld, Mélia took the stage before a packed house and gave her raw uncensored performance. The crowd went wild. As soon as she walked off the stage Cuba Gooding, Jr. approached her and exclaimed, "You are hilarious! I am going to set up a meeting with my management for you." Mélia's comedic star has been rising ever since. Jamie Foxx's manager invited her to perform at Comedy Central's, Laffapalooza. Dave Chappelle has invited her to open for him several times. Mélia has studied at The Groundlings and competed against hundreds and won the NBC/Upright Citizens Brigade Improv Scholarship. She has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle and Funny Women UK magazine. She starred in the Warner Bros. film Black August and was a comedic commentator on BET's Top 25 under 25 and Top 25 Heartaches. She has appeared on Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen for ABC. Mélia regularly produces mélia's mashUp her storytelling, stand up and rap show at the Comedy Central Stage.
