    Freleng's Glorious Swansong

    Pink Panther Odyssey Part X

Friz's last is actually one of the strongest since the first handful - with Pink doing battle against an improbable mosquito bent on hijacking his television. It's glorious absurd and has many memorable moments. The tiny buzzy thing randomly throwing a brick through the window is fantastic.

    Pinky vs, a fly

The 10th 'Pink Panther' cartoon is, once again, original, imaginative, creative and full of classic humor.

The basic idea is familiar: Pinky wants to sleep. After all, it's probably late and he is tired. But his sleep is disturbed by a very stubborn fly. This fly is constantly bugging him and every time he kicks the fly off the house and takes measures against that, the fly always manages to find a way to get in and keep tormenting the panther.

The fly is incredibly annoying, but ironically the insect makes some of the funniest gags here. For example, whenever the fly is expelled from the house and knocks on the door or window, the Pink Panther's laughters are simply delightful and hilarious to hear!

As a final judgment, I can say that this is one of the great Pink Panther's cartoons and one that belongs to the group of classics.

The Most Incredible And Funny Fly I've Ever Seen, And The Best Sound

The beginning of this Pink Panther cartoon certainly was different. Inserted in the animation were real-life, black-and-white pictures of various action scenes on an animated television set. We see a sleepy-eyed Panther with his remote control changing channels. (I don't even remember having remote-controls back in the mid '60s!). On the floor is a bunch of junk food (with potato chips misspelled as "potatoe.")

Anyway, the idea is the Panther is exhausted and wants some sleep. He goes to bed, begins to sleep but his loud snoring wakes himself up. Then, the big gag of the cartoon, after going back asleep again, a buzzing fly wakes him up and torments him.

This fly is awesome! After being booted out of house, he knocks on the door and gets back in! Later, he finds another clever way to get back inside and dive bomb our trying-to-sleep hero. Still, later he finds an even-more totally outrageous way to get back in the house. Each time it gets funnier.

For the first time ever, I appreciated the sound in here more than anything. The fly, the Panthers laughs, the fly's laugh, the noises made by fly as he did various things.....all of them are extremely funny.

This is a terrific PP cartoon; one of the best.

    So very tired

The Pink Pather has stayed up way past his bedtime watching rubbish on TV. With his eyes totally bloodshot he decides to finally hit the hay. Only he can't seem to shut down. And counting sheep doesn't help. Things get worse when an annoying, a rather strong, fly buzzes into his bedroom.

Nothing Pinky does seems to kill it or keep it out. It even manages to fly down the phone the line and come out the receiver as well as deliver a few powerful karate chops. Poor Pinky. Despite being very similar to the Donald Duck cartoon Early to Bed, it's still very funny with loads of laughs.

    Classic Pink Panther

Possibly the Pink Panther's best cartoon since The Pink Phink. If anybody likes The Pink Panther like I do they will love The Pink Tail Fly, right from the different but interesting opening to the end. It is well animated, the style is simple but the colours are beautiful to look at, the backgrounds are not too sparse and the two characters are well drawn. The iconic main theme still has its infectious quality, and the background music is similarly catchy. The gags are both imaginative and hilarious, the sound effects are some of the best of any Pink Panther cartoon and both characters are a lot of fun to watch. I do prefer Pinky when he is the one outwitting his adversaries but because he has such a strong adversary this time round with great comic timing and great material it works very well here and he is a joy to watch. The fly is hilarious and a perfect match for Pinky, he is annoying at times but that was the intention I think. The story is well paced and not too routine and never simplistic.

In conclusion, recommended highly for those who love the Pink Panther. 10/10 Bethany Cox
