In the Year 2889 is more or less a remake of Roger Corman&#39;s The Day the World Ended, which was made in 1956. The characters are different in this though, notably their names. After a nuclear war, a widowed dad and his daughter whose home is in a valley which is shielded from the radiation from the bombs are joined by a motley collection of people consisting of two brothers, with the older one mutating due to radiation and also a boozy rancher, a crook and his girlfriend. There is also a rather ugly mutant out there who has taken a shining to the dad&#39;s daughter but at the end when the rains come, he dies due to the water, which is now clear. The ending to this is very different to The Day the World Ended, with the dad presumed to be surviving where he dies in the other. The cast is mostly made up of unknowns with Neil Fletcher as the head of the household, Captain Ramsey. I quite enjoyed this. Check it out if you get the chance. Rating: 3 stars out of 5.

In the Year 2889

This is an awfully bad but, still good movie. It is the type of movie you must be warned about before watching. I was lucky enough to have watched it the first time with others who had seen it many times before. So, they knew what to expect and it made the experience much more enjoyable. The first clue of how the movie will turn out is in one of the first lines. The narrator opens with explaining about the nuclear war that is in the middle of happening. Then, out of nowhere he says, &quot;They all burned up!&quot; I almost died of laughter. The main premise of this movie is a simple one. The nuclear war blew up too far. Somehow, the people who were in some valley were unaffected by the blast and survived. The plot of the movie is that it seems they will not be affected by the radiation poisoning for a certain amount of time. They only have so many rations to live off of. There are mutants surrounding the house. In addition, Joanna&#39;s father thinks the world&#39;s population is gone so she and Steve should procreate. What a wacky father, eh? Anyone can tell this movie had a low budget. As the movie continues it looks as if it was shot in someone&#39;s backyard. Plus, if you watch the actresses closely you will notice they share the same wardrobe. I think this actually makes the movie worth watching. For the lines seem as if someone picked them randomly out of a hat. Especially, in the scene where Mickey starts to go a wee bit insane, steals the Captain&#39;s gun, and shoots at him. While shooting, Mickey starts chanting, &quot;One little, Two little Indians...&quot; I guess he wanted a little pick-me-up. It sure did just that for my company and me. The best parts of this film are the bad ones. So, I conclude this as &quot;A Must See!&quot;

I gave it a 7 just based on the fact that I get a kick out of watching these old cheesy sci-fi flicks with Stick acting. The movie starts out with an elderly gent and his daughter apparently the only ones alive after a nuclear war. One by one other survivors make it to the house that was built in a valley behind a mountain to protect it from radiation fallout. The father had seen all of this coming and planned ahead for him and his daughter and her fiancé to be able to survive here. He really doesn&#39;t like all the people showing up and digging in to his rations..lol. The survivors who were exposed to radiation are turned into mutant cannibals that roam the hills looking for prey. They crave meat but are afraid of water. I wont spoil the rest. If you like watching these movies for the cheese factor..this is a classic. However,if you are looking for a real good movie with great effects,great acting and great plot..pass this one by..lol. I do love the old mans voice. He has the voice that sounds like it was the one used in all 60&#39;s and 70&#39;s documentaries. Great voice.
