dances of dolls

Familiar Russian dolls Matrioska and the Russian dances . In essence, nothing more and the technical solutions, nice imagination and the passion of Co Hoedeman of remind stories ( crumbs of clichees) more than propose a story itself is just fair. A nice animation, first for the inspired nostalgia.

Not Bad; No Great Shakes Either

For a five minute video, this must have taken HOURS to shoot. Using seven nesting dolls which successively go through all conceivable permutations of separation, movement and reassembling was certainly a painstaking operation in the realm of stop-motion 'moving' photography.

Unfortunately, with no real story to tell other than 'Hey! Isn't it amazing what I was able to do with these dolls?', the viewer is left with little to ponder throughout the film.

Now, if the producer had managed to find a similar series of seven male nesting dolls and combined them with the matronly and girlish ones used here, what hi-jinks could have ensued! Unfortunately, I've only ever seen these Russian dolls in the guise of female persona.
