This movie is ostensibly a horror movie.
But it's better watched as a sort of psychological study about two sisters and a hidden past.
A past that comes back to haunt them and an entire village with deadly consequences.
Beryl Reid almost entirely runs away with this movie and would justify a decent rating for just her performance alone. But her fellow star in this piece Flora Robson is nearly as watchable and together these fine actresses bring a mediocre movie up to something far far superior than it has the right to be.
There's nothing wrong with the supporting cast as such nor the production or direction as far as I can tell. But equally none of these rise above the "okay" kind of level.
The good news is that Reid and Robson are there doing what they do. And a most excellent experience is is too.
