When the Danish persecution of Jews begins so are Mr. Stein at Korsbæk Bank in danger, but Maude Varnæs steps into character and rescues him safely to the pig dealer's house. And the local resistance movement blows up the Germans' fleet.

In 1930, everyone did not manage as well as Mads Andersen's screen. This applies, for example, to the holder of Damernes Magasin, Albert Arnesen, who will have to invite his first-man Mr Schwann, who has just had a lesser legacy, to become his partner, to prevent a threatening bankruptcy. Arnold has finished his education at Arnesen and takes work at Mads Skjern. The 30's have just started - a time of turbulence, especially in the political sphere. The dams come to Korsbæk where there is a loud noise of agitation - both on the conservative and socialist front. Mads marries Ingeborg and adopts her daughter Ellen.

Mads is once again caught up in the town hall scandal, but is saved by a marriage. And Lauritz and Herbert takes part in the Spanish Civil War. While the family life is put to the test at Varnæs when a new housekeeper intervenes.

Mads Skjern starts his business, with the help from pig dealer Larsen. Skjern hires the pig dealers daughter, Ingeborg, as an employee.

While Mads Skjern expands as Skjerns Magasin and opens Omegnsbanken with his brother Kristen as director. So are Jørgen ruined from his divorce and his expensive mistress Gitte Graa. So he sells his board position in Korsbæk Bank.

As Elisabeth returns to Korsbæk, Albert Arnesens money trouble leads to a tragedy and Jørgens marriage is on thin ice.

The internationally known painter Ernst Nyborg comes to Korsbæk with his exhibition »i byen«. And Maude Varnæs meets her past. And Mads Skjern discovers that art - and city council secretary Lund can promote his plans for a new building.

Mads has been inspired by a business trip to America and offers Daniel a new job, but he would rather go to Paris. So Agnes gets the offer and accepts. And Daniel brings a friend home from Paris, and this creates both anger and confusion.

Andersen and Hitler die on the same day, and during the Varnæs family's funeral so did the company receive a message of liberation, and Misse reveals a secret to Maude. While Skjold is suffers a stroke with unexpected consequences.

Mads gets busy investing his black money, and Dr. Hansen and Kristen have to go underground when Ulla's fiance, Poul, is shot during an action. And Miss Møghe marries teacher Andersen.
