You mean it wasn't a parody?

For years I have wondered whether this series was meant to be a parody. I couldn't believe that a show could seriously be that bad. It finally occurred to me to check IMDb to learn more about the show. I guess I was wrong.

This very bad knock-off of Miami Vice was painful to watch, even worse than a Michale Pare movie. The writing was predictable and the acting was horrible. If you have a choice between watching old episodes of this show and being devoured by rats, take the rats.

Seen by today's standards, the cutting edge (for the time) Miami Vice looks pretty hokey. Houston Knights would look hokey by any standards.

    I love this series!

I really enjoy the episodes of Houston Knights. while some of the writing may lead through some predictable story lines, the acting is great. I really enjoy the chemistry between the stars and MB's portrayal of L.L is wonderful with that dry sense of humor and irony that is NEVER lost on MP's Joey LF--they play so well off each other, I can make allowances for some of the writing. I also really liked it when they added the Mexican cop, Esteban G., he brought a lot more to his role than the old detective did. Good change over. I love the complexity of the character development with these two lead actors. I re-watch them whenever I can.

    • Trivia
The car explosion scene at the end of the pilot episode of this series was filmed in an airfield in Pearland, Texas, much to the surprise of several Pearland residents. It was filmed around midnight and the explosion was heard for quite some distance. The remains of the car were left on the property for a week or two before being towed away, offering Pearland residents and other passersby a look at it as it sat in full view of Interstate 35 which runs through the center of town. This was at least the second time Pearland was used as a location for filming a movie or television show, following Urban Cowboy and preceding Arlington Road.

LaFiamma is "transferred" from Chicago to Houston as a detective. There is no such thing as a transfer between agencies in different states. One had to go through the hiring process all over again, and start as a patrolman. Seniority is not carried over.
