    Decent B budget cheesy horror

    Demon Wind is just an average B budget late 80's early 90's horror movie. Typical dumb college students getting into even dumber situations. Nothing really new. But however usually this premise provides for a very entertaining and sometimes funny film based on just how bad it is. Demon Wind has the formula for a good-bad horror movie , stupid characters , clunky dialogue , dreadful acting , and some of the most awful special effects that will have you laughing on the floor. But the problems with Demon Wind is it takes out some necessary goodies..like the occasional gratuitious nudity..only one nude scene that last about 10 seconds..we had 3 female characters..and none of them were shown nude..and also.NO GORE..sure there were some little small splurts here and there..but what makes the zombie/demon style horror movies work is the repulsive gore..the producers shouldn't have gone for an R rated feature..since this was obviously going to be direct to video when it was released in 1990..they should have gone for Unrated..because the R rated violence..is too tame for your average zombie/demon horror fan. Demon Wind also moves at a very slow pace...the action is restrained..and it's interrupted by clunky dialogue when there could be demon dismemberment. But I did like this film for it's efforts , and it does have some enjoyable moments..and the demon voices were especially neat..so check this out anyway if you can find it..but don't expect too much explicit scenes usually found in films of this genre

    Heh, the movie is kind of like 'Phantasm' light... very, Very light... :)

    This was kind of a fun one... In a way it sort of reminded me of the strong Retro, offbeat feel of 'Phantasm', which is one of my all time favourite Horror films.

    But... sadly, the way it is made is considerably poorer than that iconic film. The acting is pretty bad, and I mean pretty bad... Great hairstyles though!

    There are a lot of rather cool Retro practical effects which are fun. And, I love the little touches like when we are looking at the bare front of the house that is left and then the way they show them as they walk in the door (I don't want to give too much away, especially with one of the better effects... 😊

    But, both storywise and scriptwise, the movie really does go downhill after a while, even though it didn't actually start very much 'Up' the hill to begin with.

    The reference to 'Phantasm' is mainly due to the camerawork and the way the director had things kind of come out of the air at you. I really did like the camera direction and it did add to the disjointed atmosphere.

    But, ultimately, it really isn't enough to hold this story together, and it isn't quite creative enough to be really offbeat like 'Phantasm'

    So, what you have, really, is a moderately fun, very Retro Horror film that is entertaining in a 'Sit back and laugh at it' kind of way. With some scattered, fun effects (and some pretty lame ones too) here and there.

    Feeling somewhat generous and a tad nostalgic, I gave it a '5'...

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Just a note as to how I do my reviews... I usually don't repeat the basic plot since almost everyone else does that. And, you can get the basic synopsis from a bunch of other places, to me that is a waste of time, and I feel honestly just doesn't really tell you anything that helpful. So, what I concentrate on in my reviews is hopefully putting across whether I think it is a Good film, or if I think that it is an Entertaining movie and what I feel it's strengths and weaknesses are in the way it is made.
    That way, Hopefully it will be of more benefit and actual be of some help to others as to whether I feel the movie is worth watching (and also perhaps what 'Type' of film it is and what type of people may enjoy it)
    My Particular Way of Rating:
    5 - Flawed, but perhaps with a little entertainment value here and there for some.
    6. A decently passable story maybe worth a watch.
    7. A solid film, well made, effective, and entertaining.
    And, obviously, you can probably figure out what above and below these would mean... : )
    Only watched this thanks to High on life game and the commentary
    Absolutely awful movie. Plot holes are followed by plot holes. Followed by awful effects and even worse acting. I know it was probably meant to be as cheesy as it came out but for a 1990 movie its just horrendous and hasn't aged well
    Now onto the best part: came across that movie just because its featured in High on Life game, that came out recently on the XBOX
    The game is made by the Squanch team who are behind the Rick and Morty show.
    What makes this movie remotely watchable is the commentary that was added in. Demon wind can be watched in one of the respawnable locations and one of them happens to be a cinema. It has 3 watchers already in it and who provide a 90 min long, non stop, commentary
    Go and play the game and go and watch the movie🙂
    An insane Evil Dead wannabe.
    Of all of the Evil Dead rip-offs I have seen, Demon Wind is perhaps the most blatant, its basic plot, setting, characters, sound effects and atmosphere all clearly fashioned after Sam Raimi's 1982 horror classic. Director Charles Philip Moore is no Raimi though, and the result is a haphazard mess packed with random, oddball WTF moments and cheap gore effects, albeit one that demands to be seen (by avid fans of trashy horror, at least) just to be believed.
    For starters, the group of twenty somethings that are attacked by ancient demons in a remote run down cottage includes a high-kickin' karate magician—you don't get many of them in horror films; then there's the human remains packing a supernatural charge, and the trio of superhuman, supernatural ghost girls who turn one victim into a doll (!?!); and let's not forget about the bird's egg that cracks open to reveal maggots, the mysterious fog that repeatedly prevents the group from escaping, the assorted mouldy, wisecracking zombies, the topless female demon, and the satanic altar comprising of a human skeleton and animal skull with whiplash tongue that chomps on a girl's head!
    Has its moments, but is really stupid.
    "Demon Wind" shows some imagination in the early going...but by the last 20 minutes or so it has become an insult to anyone's intelligence. It has some OK (for the budget) special effects and some eerie moments (the best is easily the one involving a door that, at first sight, appears to be leading...nowhere), but just like the characters do battle with an army of demons (or are they zombies? They sure walk and moan like zombies), those good points do battle with the mostly laughable acting and an inconsistent, often moronic script...and they lose. (**)
