    Betty Boop and Buzzy Boop

A good deal of the pre-Production Code Betty Boop cartoons are daring and creative, with content that makes one amazed at what's gotten away with. While the later Betty Boop cartoons made after the Code was enforced are still watchable and exceptionally well-made, they are so toned down that they feel bland.

Fleischer were responsible for some brilliant cartoons, some of them still among my favourites. Their visual style was often stunning and some of the most imaginative and ahead of its time in animation. The character of Betty Boop, one of their most famous and prolific characters, may not be for all tastes and sadly not as popular now, but her sex appeal was quite daring for the time and to me there is an adorable sensual charm about her.

Lost thought to be lost, 'Buzzy Boop' is actually available to watch though the quality isn't the best. There are other Betty Boop cartoons with crisper picture quality and clearer sound. As a Betty Boop cartoon in general, 'Buzzy Boop' is neither among the best or worst, instead around mid-tier.

The animation is still good, being beautifully drawn, crisply shaded and meticulous in detail. The music is infectious, lush and dynamic. There are some amusing moments and it is cute without being too saccharine. The voice is reliably good, even with Mae Questel not voicing Betty Boop Kate Wright does an above serviceable job and as Buzzy.

Can definitely understand why Buzzy may be annoying and bratty to some, to me though she really livened things up when needed and has much more energy and a personality in 'Buzzy Boop' than Betty. She is not one of Betty's best supporting characters, like frequent recurring characters like Pudgy and especially Grampy but she is significantly less irritating than Little Jimmy and Junior.

It is disappointing however that Betty herself has very little to do, screen-time wise and in writing, and has lost what made her so memorable as a character, she is very uptight and very bland (for Betty Boop these are pretty unrecognisable traits).

The story is quite weak and as has been said for a number of post-Production Code Betty Boop cartoons the Betty Boop cartoons worked much better when with a surreal, risqué and creative edge, and (this is talking about the later cartoons in general rather than this in particular) when the humour was more consistent and didn't try too hard to be cute.

Summing up, mid-tier and just above average if not great later Betty Boop cartoon. There's better post-Production Code Betty Boop cartoons, as well as Betty Boop cartoons overall, and there's also been worse on both counts. 6/10 Bethany Cox

    Pleasing contrast...

Buzzy's a quaint example of a contrast to Betty's character. Eight years along and our sexy urban a charming diplomatic Betty has matured and now mentors the country bumpkin sporty sprite seemingly opposite but essentially quite similarly charismatic Buzzy. American serial animation has struggled with continuity over the years, yet here's an instance of a character maturing and taking on a new role toward a young version of herself. Much as she might say herself, "Don't sell Buzzy short" I guess the Fleischer Brothers and the American public did, though, and her tenure was short lived. Thankfully, a print was preserved by the Russians, and we get to see what might have been a chance to see personal growth in one of our beloved cartoon icons....

    Really Great to watch

This Betty Boop feature was really great to watch it features Betty Boops young cousin Buzzy Boop, who gets up to all kinds of mischief. Betty Boop Seems really strict in this cartoon also not to mention Mae Questel isn't doing the role.

Kate wright was great for the role not sure how she was recalled but mae questel had refused to move with the fleischer studios from 1938 and it seems Bonnie poe & kate wright were called back to do a few roles in 1938 until Margie hines Continued the series from the Feature Sally swing (1938) Buzzy Boop has a deep bronx accent and she really wants to play with the boys but they wont let her. Buzzy really shows that a girl can do anything a guy can do. Buzzy also made another appearance in Buzzy Boop and the concert but according to a historian the cartoon is lost. altogether i give this cartoon a 8/10 its a really great cartoon but some parts don't make sense but thats the fleischer studios for you i must admit buzzy was a really interesting character its a shame nothing was made of her from king features/fleischer studios.

I can see why Buzzy never became a regular character.

According to IMDb this cartoon was assumed lost, but you can watch it for free at archive.org--along with many other Betty Boop cartoons.

"Buzzy Boop" features Betty's bratty young cousin, Buzzy. Buzzy is nothing like Betty, as she tries very hard to be annoying and is quite young--lacking the slutty qualities of her older cousin. The cartoon begins with Buzzy annoying folks on the train as well as riding on the roof on her way to Betty's house. Once there, she meets up with the neighborhood boys who take an immediate disliking towards her (no surprises here). So, they release a dangerous goat(???) and it runs amok--until Buzzy saves the day.

All in all, the character of Buzzy is a bit like Popeye and a complete brat rolled into one. As this was NOT a pleasant combination, I could see why Buzzy's career never took off. Not particularly enjoyable.
