Great Hallowe'en Cartoon

Dave Fleischer and his brother had one final quarrel and broke; Paramount called in its note on their studio -- or perhaps it happened t'other way around. In any case, Dave went over to Columbia where he produced some very nice cartoons for a few years, particularly a good set of Lil Abner cartoons.

This one is a stand-alone, done with Disney refugees who would go on to UPA. It is about a 'final exam' at a detective school with all sorts of weird stuff getting in the way of the would-be detective. With Dave Fleischer wielding the whip, the staff turned in something that Fleischer would have done as director: fast, furious and full of gags.

The gags are a trifle random for my taste, a little too anything-can-happen-in-a-cartoon, but the rhythm and speed with which the gags are executed impose their own zany logic, like looking at a great Bob Clampett piece. Hunt this one down if you can.
