Mercy Point

This show started out very interesting. It had many elements of Star Trek & Babylon 5 with a little St. Elsewhere thrown in. Joe Morton was a strong lead, as was Maria Del Mar. Brian McNamara & Salli Richardson-Whitfield of Stargate SG-1 & Eureka were excellent. I caught the few episodes on a streaming service and what a line-up mess. There was a pilot episode that was never aired, for some reason. Three episodes were aired in October of 1998. It disappeared, then returned July 8 of 1999 with two episodes (???), two more episodes on July 15 of 1999 (???) and another unaired episode on July 18. The streaming service had them all out of order. Trying to follow the characters and the storylines was nearly impossible. This show had great potential. I remember when it was advertised. Created by Trey Callaway, he had a great idea/story. I just read where this show was on UPN. There is the problem. They were as obnoxious as FOX. What a shame...

This was an interesting show, no way around it. Sort of a cross between Star Trek and ER. Unfortunately, it was cancelled! Isn't that always the way? Put an intriguing show on the air and then dump it just because it doesn't take off right away. I only caught the last several episodes in July 1999.

When I contacted my local UPN station, they said that when the show originally aired in the fall of 1998, it received "very low ratings." They filled me in that the network aired the episodes I saw to fulfill its commitment to the producers. Interestingly, however, they noted that "it is always possible that a cable network (like the Sci-Fi Channel) will pick it up."

Keep your fingers crossed. Joe Morton was great. I can't remember having seen him in anything except "Terminator 2: Judgement Day." The entire cast was doing a great job, from what I could tell.
