Hyperion Bay (1998)

Hyperion Bay

Love it! The characters drew me into the story from the first episode.

Classy, intelligent, well-written night-time soap. Hyperion Bay is another winner on the Warner Bros. Network. Beautiful people, great scenery, and a story that leaves you waiting to see next week. Relationships to cheer for and villains to despise. Plus computers!

The « adult » pendant of Dawson's Creek.

From realism to boring, egocentric soap style in one season.

I am not sure how this series ultimately started, but when I started watching it, I was fascinated by the realistic view on small town life, the enthusiasm of a newly started high tech company and the depth of the personal relationships of this series. In short, I believed in what I saw.

Then something happened... Something bad... Focus was drawn away from the small town environment and the enthusiasm of the workers in the newly started firm. Suddenly everything changed and became a cynical egocentric powertrip for everyone involved. No care for the people around you anymore, every action justified from personal gain. The personal style changed into a soap polished power struggle. Maybe the series is living The American Dream, but to me it has become a less interesting series. Unless it improves, I hope the Norwegian channel that ran it here, do not buy more seasons of this...

It's gone down hill since Carmen Electra joined the show.

I started watching the show because the characters seemed so real. The relationships between the characters in the first episodes were exceptional. Each individual was working through their own problems and life experiences, which were REALISTIC! NOW HOWEVER................................... The show has turned into a Melrose Place. Carmen Electra's performance is bad and her lines are poorly written. Nick Sweeny has become a redneck buffoon. Is he taking Nelson's place?!? Dennis Sweeny started as an intelligent and sensitive man. Now he's turned into a stupid, whiney dim witted boy. What does this say about the writers??????????? I realize Melrose Place is going off the air but did you have to turn Hyperion Bay into it so soon!! Think about appealing to the higher intelligence of the audience. You will continue to lose viewers with garbage like this.

Never quite got off the ground

The ingredients are here -- photogenic background, attractive cast, a host of potentially intriguing sub-plots -- but this series never seemed to get its act together. After awhile, the main point of interest became a question of when co-star Dylan Neal would take his shirt off. He finally got around to it but perhaps this particular piece of "beefcake" wasn't worth the wait. (Isn't Dylan the guy on the Norelco commercials standing bare-chested before a mirror, trimming his beard?)

The word "sucked" is not enough to describe the badness of this show

The character development was terrible, the technology was incredibly inaccurate, and I've seen this show done many times before. I didn't expect much and I was still let down. I wish I had more thumbs to point down.
