Lifetime movie classic.
Seen years ago & recently rewatched..
Joanna did wrong however with a spouse & friends like that, honestly can you blame her? Superficial, conditional and fake.
The life she had seemed like a performance,as if she displayed cracks it somehow fell negatively on her.
When the movie began she was coloring her hair, when her husband called out she quickly buried the box in the trash.
Her spouse took vows including in bad times they had years together, kids, was a great wife, mom & friend.. Yet everyone turned instantly,as though it was a stranger.
Sure forgiving might of took time but if you look at her legal punishment, sad the detective & courts found less fault in her actions.
I think the husband cared more about his life, image, work & she just had to make things easy for him.. Doing parties, etc.
Towards the movies end you see that she dressed more casual & no longer colored her hair, allowed herself to be just who she is.
Casting,acting,cinematography was nicely done.
Was it clichéd? Sure.
This was decent or back when Lifetime, knew how to make quality movies.
Worth viewing it,if you never have.

What I think ...
Someone else wrote that this movie was told inaccurately but here's my take on the movie itself as it's told...
I think the acting was good, especially by the main actress!
I will say that the preview sentence you read before seeing the movie made it seem that the main character was much worse than it comes out in the movie! I would suggest that you watch it!

A wonderfully adapted film!!
This is such a great movie to watch and all the actors put together a great film which would be enjoyed by everyone! It is very emotional in parts, so when you watch it grab a box of tissues to keep you company!! This movie doesn't deserve a rating below 10/10!
Is a person to be condemned for one single mistake.........
Margaret Colin stars as the principal figure in this story; as I watched it, I remembered her bit part in Adrian Lynes's "Ünfaithful" as Diane Lane's neighbor in a tony NY neighborhood.
This movie was surprisingly good, and Diane Stillman deserves credit for an accurate portrayal of class, crimes, and misdemeanors, which actually occur in upscale neighborhoods (perish the thought!!!).It is real but not over-dramatized; the audience lives through her accident, the pain it has caused;denial; and the ultimate resolution.
It is more than just a question of "what is a good person" as Colin speaks to her husband....is a person's character defined by one single act; and should they be condemned forever because of their action?? The questions are pertinent; It is also amusing to see several cinematic references to Martha Stewart (i.e. the fussy, bothersome mother);Colin is reputed by her sometime friends to be a "perfect hostess, with perfect genes"....(gag); and a scene wherein Colin is confronted by police;(the "friends" also betray her, later)....
The denial and facades of American society are addressed; (Oh, murder doesn't occur here; similar to the theme in "Ä Season in Purgatory", by author Dominick Dunne, about the true murder of Martha Moxley; in Greenwich, Connecticut); Colin is aware of her crime; but consciously finds herself perpetuating the facade, until she finally breaks down;rent or buy this film; she is an underrated actress who does quite well in these roles.

This movie is about a true story but it's told wrong.
The woman this movie is about is Corine Miller and no she was not a good person. She was a raging alcoholic who mistreated everyone including her own children. She never felt bad about what she did to the little boy (in the real life it was a little boy not a girl). She was just mad she had to do time in prison for it. She was pretty and presented well so people assumed she was decent because she was middle class. She ended up drinking herself to death. She was just really involved in both her daughters schools. Daughters she ended up abandoning. She was an abusive drunk that my dad divorced. He stayed in contact with her daughters though. They actually asked her to be extra in this movie but she declined. It happened in Atascadero California in the early 90's or late 80's. You can look it
up because the court records are public.
