Tammy (Denise Richards) is a young college student still living with her folks. She has the ex-boyfriend from hell, truly. He beats up all of her new love interests and tries to control her life. Although she has her eye on Michael, she plays it cool to protect him. But, hormones are hormones. She asks him to come over to her house one night and he does. Trouble is, her ex shows up, too. Michael gets the beating of a lifetime and ends up in a coma. Meanwhile, an unethical scientist needs a brain for his animatronic dinosaur. Michael's brain will do and he steals Michael from the hospital. So, that's how we arrive at a T-Rex called Michael. He is out for revenge and he is lethal. Can you spell trouble? This is an absolutely terrible movie. It has cult aspirations but they fall far short of true entertainment. Richards tries very hard and looks beautiful through one preposterous scene after another. The rest of the cast is pretty forgettable. Even the special effects are not that great. Okay. Someone out there will probably love this movie for its foibles, like an Ed Wood disaster. If you are that type, go find yourself a copy of this one. But, for everyone else, stay far, far away. You will end up blowing a couple of hours of your life, time you will never get back.
I almost can't believe a movie like this was even made... almost. Then I remember other extraordinarily bad movies such as "Pirrhana II- The Spawning" and I am no longer amazed that this movie was made; I just wonder how much the script sold for. I am convinced I could crank out three or four scripts of this caliber in one night's time. My advice to everyone is to watch this movie only on a bet or under the influence of a few beers. By the former, at least you are making money on the deal. By the latter, it is actually somewhat amusing and Denise Richards is easy on the eyes. There is nothing to be found here in the way of story, dialogue, or acting.
Starring a young Denise Richards in one of her earlier roles (before Wild Things- and no, not "Besides Denise in her prime" as she was about 22/23 years old during filming) and a young Paul Walker (well before the Fast and the Furious).
This film is entirely cheesy, campy yet also has some surprising graphic and violent gorey deaths like its a horror film (we see the dinosaur rip off people's heads with blood gushing out and stomp people to death, showing limbs and guts). Also the bullies were quite extreme. Attacking and kidnapping Paul Walker, throwing him in the trunk then leaving to die in the zoo/wildlife with lions at sight. Seemed quite an extreme thing for high school bullies to do over a love interest.
Clearly not a film to serious as all of it is unrealistic and extremely bizarre (just the entire premise is silly- but perhaps original?).
The title and cover art sort of makes it look like a it's a film for children or younger teens but it's R rated.
A lot of the story isn't explained, such as how do the scientists know exactly where Tammy is (they know where her house is, where and when the funeral was held). And how were they so easily able to pass as doctors at the hospital and get into the room and sneak Paul out? Where was the security?
This is definitely a film where you need to suspend any sense of realism and disbelief or you may be asking yourself "How did this happen? This makes no sense". Also the ending doesn't explain how it happened (who got the brain out the T-Rex if the lead scientist was "unavailable")
Even though it's not a good film and contains a lot of flaws there remains a sense of mildly entertainment watching to see what silliness occurs next.
