    Video please!

An excellent film that was screened on British TV a year or so ago. Joss Ackland and Jean Simmons, two of our great actors, play a very tender and dignified scene of love in later-life.

I wish it was available on video. I want this!

    An excellent movie!

I think this movie "Daisies in December" was one of the most enjoyable movies I have seen. It was funny, sad, romantic. Just a "heart warming" story.

I wonder if it is possible to purchase this movie on Video?

I work as a nurse in an Aged Care Hostel, I would Just love to be able to obtain a copy to show to my residents. I am sure most of them could relate to it,in "one way or an other"

Having worked in this setting, has helped me appreciate this movie even more. I is so much more difficult for men to settle into these situations, more so than women. Daisies in December portrayed the whole story so beautifully,

Life is essentially ridiculous, once you've got that, you can start to enjoy it.

This is really a very beautiful film about love at old age. If you ever get the chance to see it, don't let it pass! The acting is great and it leaves an impression that will make you remember this film for the rest of your life.

    Great acting...an okay story.

I watched "Daisies in December" because it stars Joss Ackland...an incredibly talented actor with a gorgeous voice. However, I had no idea the film also starred Jean Simmons...and the two together were simply marvelous. The acting is THE reason to watch this film.

Gerald is an elderly man who resents losing his independence. He's recently moved in with his son and family but now that the family is going on a skiing vacation, Gerald is forced to stay at a hotel which is also like a short-stay nursing home. He clearly resents it and wants to hate every minute of it. And, at first, he does a great job of being miserable. But when he meets Katherine, she is able to cut through his very gruff exterior...and their relationship is quite charming.

As I already said, I love the acting. My only regret is that some elements of the story were very easy to guess and anticipate...the biggest weakness in an otherwise terrific film. Well worth seeing...and proof that Ackland was every bit the equal to the great Ms. Simmons.

Very poignant without being too sentimental

I would thoroughly agree with the comments of others - this is a too-little seen movie. To the best of my knowledge it has only been shown on British TV once, whilst other inferior films get regular showings. The central characters are sensitively portrayed by Joss Ackland and Jean Simmons at their best, and the cameo roles provide some comic moments, among them the wonderful Barbara Lott playing an eccentric old lady. The balance between comedy and drama is well maintained in the way that British TV does so well - had this been an American production it would no doubt have been sickly sentimental to the point of overkill. I am very surprised to hear that the film isn't available on video

Much of the filming took place at the Tregenna Castle Hotel. The flags which can be seen outside the hotel include the US and Cornwall flags side by side, which were left over from a wedding of a Cornish woman and an American man which had taken place at the hotel shortly before.

Arthur Carmody: Ah, now that is handy; a little sewing kit, and something to polish your shoes with. Look!

Gerald Carmody: Oh, wonderful. I can't wait to sit in the bath, sewing my socks, shining my shoes and wearing my shower cap.

Arthur Carmody: Dad, we really want you to enjoy this. We couldn't leave you alone, not after what happened.

Gerald Carmody: It was an isolated incident.

Arthur Carmody: Yes, well, there's no point in going over old ground.

Gerald Carmody: Absolutely. Well, I'll see you in two weeks then. Don't be surprised if I'm still sitting here.

Arthur Carmody: Then you'd be a damned fool. Places like this are bloody nice.

Gerald Carmody: Places like this are the equivalent of a kennel. When you go on holiday, pets go into kennels and elderly relatives go into places like this.

Arthur Carmody: You could have a very pleasant two weeks here if you weren't so determined to be miserable.

Gerald Carmody: I do not enjoy being surrounded by old people.

Miss Glaistow: [there is a knock on the door which opens] Mr. Camody, I'm Miss Glaistow, resident physiotherapist and general dogsbody. And I always make it a point of greeting our guests and explaining the room.

Gerald Carmody: Oh, really? Have your guests so little experience of rooms? What is their natural habitat? The Serengeti? The Arctic tundra?

Arthur Carmody: My father's a little unhappy at being dumped. At least that's how he sees it.

Gerald Carmody: That's exactly how it is, Arthur. I don't mind accepting that fact but I do object to your dressing it up as a little treat for the old man.
