    A Pile of Rubbish!

Having recently re watched this movie after nearly ten years of it's first screening I can't believe how awful it is. Having been made in 1998, it must of been rushed out in no time and it just looks it too. Amy Seacombe who played Diana, although not a great actress did resemble the Princess in a small way, which is more then some other actresses have done in the past, but you just can't stop thinking 'ham' when you watch the acting. The boys who play William and Harry are incredibly annoying, particularly Harry who bounds around like a over excited puppy for most of it. The scenes between Diana and Dodi are cringe making. They talk about making love and making babies, and all Diana could utter was 'that sounds exciting'. That was definitely a moment to hide behind your pillow. It would be nice to see a movie about Princess Diana, but a quality one. Diana: Her True Story was only slightly better. Please, please do not spend your hard earned money on buying this on video tape or DVD. Wait for a cable show to air and judge it yourself but quite honestly, the movie is appalling, the script is bad, the acting is far, far worse then the most z-list soap opera and has hardly any redeeming qualities at all. In fact it has no redeeming qualities at all! A good film if you want a laugh, but if you admire Diana or are looking for a decent Diana film, avoid this like the plague.

i was forced to watch this...

working in television is a dangerous business when it includes having to watch such drivel as this...

i have to admit now that i am not a huge fan of diana...in fact i find this whole idolising thing rather sickening...but i went into this film with an open mind and i was saddened...

so many film directors and producers have brilliant ideas and they don't get made in preference for this...

no doubt people will still watch it - everyone knows what happens but it's watching the whole sorry scene unravel...

the actors could have been replaced by cardboard cut outs...and in some of the scenes i was convinced they were...mind you, it's not their fault, i would have found it hard to get into a script so flat as well...the characters are as one dimensional as you can get...don't expect any revelations...this is simply playing out what you want to see...

i've looked on the vote display and much to my surprise (and horror) i noticed that some people have actually given this film a 10!...this is hopefully someone who worked on the film otherwise we would have to institutionalise them...

    watch it at your peril...

A fitting tribute, and an informing time passer

STAR RATING:*****Unmissable****Very Good***Okay**You Could Go Out For A Meal Instead*Avoid At All Costs

Today is the 3rd anniversary of the untimely passing of Princess Diana, and, compared to how it was about 2 years ago, much of the mass hysteria and general hype have calmed down, though the awareness of the many great things she did is still widely acknowledged on this landmark occasion. In the marking of this,I came across this TV drama on the life and times of her on UK Living ,and it did it's job quite well.

It portrayed her as she was,an unselfconscious, completely genuine person, who received all the completely unwanted attention of the newspapers because of this.Although this only really seemed to focus on the build up to her untimely death, and did'nt really focus much into her life before this.It seems here her life moreorless began in the summer of 1996,before she'd even given birth to either of her two sons, although this may have detered the cause of what it's ultimate intention was. Also,it was quite funny seeing how the actor's who played the roles of William,Harry,Fergie,Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa looked like on screen, despite their good performances.

Certainly, all the reflections of a very TV movie shine through, but I'd rather watch this simple, unidealistic TV movie than some big hyped, over promoted hollywood disaster designed entirely for profit.***

    great

I never heard of this actress playing Diana but she does a great job. She looks like her and does a great job of capturing her heart and soul. Diana was such a wonderful person. I write to celebrities as a hobby and I wish that I had written her a letter. All I can say is this, if this is how it really was I don't know how Diana stood it, being chased by those paparazzi a--holes wherever she went! This film also shows there was a lot of sadness in Diana's life. People have theorized the reason she was so good and kind and caring is the simple fact that she had suffered so much pain and grief first hand that she couldn't stand seeing other people in pain. She did so much and could have done so much more. It was a loss for the world. If only she had her seat belt on.

Could become, in time, a specimen of high camp in a TV film.

Biographical film attempts at capturing vivid, beautiful, and charismatic people usually fail. What actress/actor could convey the qualities of a Marilyn Monroe, Lord Louis Mountbatten, Ava Gardner,or Jackie O? Here we have one of the worst examples of contemporary bio-films. Neither the actress in the title role nor the screen writer/director is professionally up to the job.If one were told that Mohammed El Fayed's public relations organization had commissioned this film it would be believable. Fayed senior is the only "hero" in this version of Diana's story. No guilt for the driver of the death car-- or anyone but the press--is implied here. Dodi's discarded fiance is also trashed along the way,(as Mohammed sees the possibilities of a Diana connection for his son). Low life in high places is all that is served up in Diana: the People's Princess.
